Re: Vermont Overland Trophy
Bring extra water for yer radiator. I believe there is a parking lot at the toll booth where ya can leave your trailers. We went up in July 5 years ago. 90 degrees at the toll booth, and 30 degrees and snowing on the summit. Damn dog wouldn't get out of the car. He was convinced we were nuts. I thought so too until I saw "hikers" start to show up for a ride back down.

Re: Vermont Overland Trophy
Jillian and I went up a few years ago... 68 with light breeze at the bottom... 34 and 60mph winds at the top. We were in T shirts. I jumped out of the driver's seat and climbed into the bed of the truck and closed the cap. I gathered up everything I could find. Leather winching gloves, rain coats, etc.

Yeah, should be good to roll. I gotta pick up a few odds and ends but for the most part I'm ready. Be prepared for the major stuff and don't sweat the small stuff.

Re: Vermont Overland Trophy
E-mail news from Peter Vollers, mastermind behind the VOT:
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have tremendous news. Last winter, when I was cooking up the harebrained scheme that is VOT, I found myself gathering inspiration by watching every Camel Trophy video I could find on Youtube. At some point at about 2 in the morning one night in a bleary-eyed trance watching the vids, I stumbled across the 1993 CT Malaysia vid. At the end of the vid, I heard the narrator exclaim, "Big congrats to Tim Hensley and Michael Hussey....OF MIDDLEBURY, VERMONT!
Now we've all heard of well-known CT vets like Bill Burke, Tom Collins, Daphne Green and Jim Swett, etc., but I had never heard of Mike Hussey and, what's more, that was THE ONLY YEAR THE US TEAM EVER WON CT!
So a quick google search later and I find a Michael Hussey in Middlebury and he's the nordic ski director at Middlebury College. Could it be the same guy? I get his email from the MC athletics website and write to him. No response, which is kind of what I expected. A few days ago, I said what the heck and wrote to him again and low and behold he responded and, yes, it's THE Michael Hussey, 1993 CT winner!
But, listen to this. Not only does Michael love the idea of VOT, he's going to BE AT BASE CAMP ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7 TO CHILL WITH THE WHOLE VOT POSSE!!!!!!!!!
That's right, Michael will swing down and have a Lillie Brook Farm burger and beer with us and we get to pepper him with questions about the real Camel Trophy!!!"
Here's the 1993 CT vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JvHSR5wFZQ (go to 1 hour and you'll see Michael's victory interview)

We have 3 more full days before we leave!
I still haftafix my holey spare (& mount it) for the trailer, add a front tow-point to the Jeep, replace the LCA bushings (axle end), grease my broken balljoints, grease everything else, replace the failing electric fan w/ my last spare, remove & reweld my RR shock mount (got smashed by a rock up North & it's about to break off...) and of course the general once over...a few times
edit:R&R PS wheelie assembly too...done 8/6

Re: Vermont Overland Trophy
It is a UK Ambulance with the lights removed (by law) and has a 2.25 petrol motor that is not terribly unhealthy just horribly overworked........if you've noticed how much junk is in that thing.whatroad wrote:He has the 2.5 N/A ( naturally aspirated) diesel. Very slow on the road. Generally speaking, that's a commercial 110.bobdesros33 wrote:That is a rover ambulance...It was brought over here a couple years ago...I met the guy at the winter romp...he has a little clapped out 4 cyl diesel in it that struggles when he winds it out...Its a really cool rig just needs more power.
