Re: Christmas Tree(s) Shoppin'
Here's my contribution to photos. I took a ton, will have to edit and add more at a later date. We had a lot of fun, the one road we traveled on that only had a snowmobile for traffic (probably a few days prior) was a bit interesting, it's neat when you have to question every hill you come across "will we make it up this one?"
Overall, I think we could have traveled the whole road, however, I'm glad we didn't. I only had 2/3 tank of fuel, and we were only covering terrain at 2-3mph (2nd gear low range @ 3k rpms just to chew up the snow/crust). Later on, we discovered that the tail end of the trail we were exploring was actually a snowmobile trail, so we would have been turned around at any rate.
There was quite a bit of snow, which would have been easily managed had it not been for the crust on top. At times, it could support my weight (275lbs). At the height of the land, there was about 3/4" of ice on the trees, which just added to the mystic look around us.

Re: Christmas Tree(s) Shoppin'
I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!
Who wants to go Christmas tree shopping? Could do a day trip, perhaps the Rangeley area or there abouts? I'm able to go on Sunday, 12/13. Unfortunately I've got to attend a wedding on 12/12 or I'd say lets make it a weekend in the North Maine Woods.

Re: Christmas Tree(s) Shoppin'
That seems like a good time and area. Jill, Lucien and I would all go, however it's possible that we get a tree earlier being his first Christmas and all
But I'd still be up for the trip either way!

Sunday's work great for me right now. I'll need a few trees this year so I'll be jonesin to get one up north to take home. Likely not one for the new house as that one usually runs over 14'.

Re: Christmas Tree(s) Shoppin'
Sounds good! I've got two sets of tire chains, might buy a third (smaller) set for the front wheels. Mine work on 33" tires, both 255 and 285 variants. Guess it's too early for the long range forecast, lol. I guess the big thing is making sure we're not on any snowmachine trails.

I don't need a tree but I'm up for cruising along. I plow commercial so I won't know if I'm free till much closer to the date.

Re: Christmas Tree(s) Shoppin'
I'm curious if there's going to be any snow on the ground for the trip! So far, long range isn't looking promising. Heck, might not even need snow chains the weekend before to get up to camp!

I could meet you guys in Rumford, that's the route I'd be taking up to HOL anyways. It's a couple hours for me to get to that point.

Re: Christmas Tree(s) Shoppin'
Ah figured you'd go through Rumford from Jay to HOL. I'll shoot up 17, that's faster than me heading across yo Jay.

We'll be taking the more funner route thru the back roads to Coo's CanyonWLFFGreg wrote:Ah figured you'd go through Rumford from Jay to HOL. I'll shoot up 17, that's faster than me heading across yo Jay.
Depending on when we depart from Jay and any snow amounts, we should be landing in CC around 10-10:15am

It's exactly 2 hours from my doorstep to the McDonalds in Jay, ME. I'll meet you there and grab a grizzle sandwich for the road, LoL.
