I have nothing to do with this, but want to share and ask people opinion about doing something similar.

When the RO/RO ferry opens from Tampa to Yucutan, Mexico something similar to this expedition could be done in Belize for less than half.

This looks like a great time. I do want to be involved in something like this in the near future, but I am going to have to figure out time off well in advance. I've subsequently switched to a new departments and I am effectively "starting over" after 10 years. I'd love to see the real numbers for that Belize trip you mentioned.

$2350 seems like a lot. But when you narrow it down to $98/day which covers 3 meals and lodging, it's not so bad. However, when you toss in the not included fees of around $2500 (plus tolls, fuel, & tips and it's an expensive total package) it can easily out of reach for most of us.
I don't have all the driver requirements (driving in other countries) nor do I have a Land Cruiser but the total idea of it seems pretty cool. NEO could easily do something like this with Canada if we had the amount of time and sponsors for such a trip.

The Belize/Yucatan trip I've been pondering is in pre-pre-planning phase, so cost could be what you wanted to it to be (i.e what blend of camping & hotels). Granted there is a minimum baseline cost for every thing in life. Costs I've read for overnight RO/RO ferry are $350 for car and driver each way, similar trip and vessel as old Scotia Prince to NS.

Sure you do! They would be happy to get someone with your experience on the trip, they just put those sorts of requirements out there to reduce the newbie factor.

FYI. Here is a link to a thread on EXPO of pair of trucks exploring the Peten area of Yucatan. They did it in a Samurai and a Patrol. Lots of great photos they took of an amazing part of the world. Its kind of like Great North Woods but with much better tacos and Monkeys.

I've been to quite a few of the ruins they went to, and many are on the list to visit again if the RO/RO starts up again from Tampa.
