Re: North Maine Woods -- Labor Day run
As far as I can remember, we haven't gone that far North during the Labor Day run. Usually due to time constraints. We have been upta Clayton Lake and over to St. Juste checkpoint in the past during our weeklong expeditions tho.

Re: North Maine Woods -- Labor Day run
One week from today we'll be waking up in the woods of Bingham (maybe even further North) to the sounds of little tweety birds getting ready to explore the great North Maine Woods! So if you're still undecided about going, get off that picket fence and get yourself and your rig ready for 3 days/nights of super awesome fun!

Re: North Maine Woods -- Labor Day run
Honestly, it all depends on where we go. Some places may involve 4Lo, other places could encounter some pin striping.

Re: North Maine Woods -- Labor Day run
I checked all of my vent tubes in case of a water crossing, this is what I found:
Front differential vents to next to the PCM in the engine compartment, 28".
Rear differential vent to the top of the fuel filler tube, 35".
Transmission and transfer case vent to the top of the bell housing in the rear of the engine compartment, 30".
There is a transmission fluid puke tube that dumps at the top of the transfer case, 22". This would be the lowest possible point for water intrusion.
Other critical components-- Bottom of mechanical fan, +/-24".
Transfer case skid plate, 9.5" (ground clearance).
Charcoal canister vent, 20".
Frame mounted ABS unit, 14" (I would hope that this is waterproofed, as it is behind the left front tire and would constantly see road spray)
Based on this, I'm going to try to limit myself to 20" water depth (Charcoal vent), maybe brief max of 22" (trans puke tube, mech fan)

I did read the 1st post & most of this thread, but just wanted to ask in case I missed something just in case since I didnt read every individual posting
I know you have tons of logging roads that are similar to our class III roads & like us have the rough stuff too
I have the transmission breather extension kit but have yet to put it in too
its sad GM vented the front diff & the rear end high enough on these rigs but leaves the trans tube on top of the trans

Re: North Maine Woods -- Labor Day run
I was doing some research and the transfer case is vented to the top of the bell housing.AA1PR wrote:....

The tranny is also vented to this location, but has a Y in the tube to allow excess fluid to drain (puke) out the rear. Mine is above the rear output on the transfer case. GM had a problem with the trans puking out the high vent and it landed on the converter and burned. the Y was added about 1992 to avoid this fire potential.
My puke tube is at 22", but the Charcoal canister vent (fuel system) is lower.

I'm gonna take the camper trailer. That Tepui tent is a lot more comfy than sleeping on the ground, haha

Re: North Maine Woods -- Labor Day run
Steve-O, to clarify, you're thinking a 5 gallon can-o-gas right?
I know in the past we've filled said can-o-gas in Greenville @ Indian Hill Trading Post, always seems to be the cheapest around. They accept cash or plasteek

Yeah, that should be enough. We might not even need that... but better to be prepared.

No one gets left behind Jareb!
I made a custom mount for my 102" , just need to run some coax. Should be good.
Was going to start packing tonight but it started a crazy downpour here roads were flooded on my way back. So I'll hopefully have time tomorrow night lol.

Re: North Maine Woods -- Labor Day run
Thanks Allan!, but if the rig isn't upta par, I won't be going. The Comanche isn't an option and neither is the Durango. I hope others will still go and not let my attendance sway their decisions. I'm not saying I'm out yet, but the costly repairs and parts availability along with my oodles of free time (not) don't all fall into place at the moment.AllanR wrote:No one gets left behind Jareb!

Re: North Maine Woods -- Labor Day run
Doing this trip will make us tight with money for a week. first week of the month half the bills are due the other half are divided over the next 3 Weeks.
Anyways I have tossed the idea of waiting until spring. But already said I was going.

Re: North Maine Woods -- Labor Day run
My issues only became more severe tonite. I save up for all my adventures ahead of time, but unplanned casualties just before the event is not predicted in my crystal ball, lol
