New England Craft Beer Trek.... Empty New England Craft Beer Trek....

Post by REDrum Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:23 pm

    Gears, Beers, and Trails....

Based on some favorable posts on Expo, I am going to start scheming/planning and 2 or 3 day craft beer trek of rural New England.

The initial concept could include, (but not limited to):
    • Craft beer brewing sites in NE

    • Driving 4X4 trucks

    • Driving said trucks on class 3 & 4 roads to get to said craft brewing sites

    • Camping in rural areas when the sun goes down (for 1 or 2 nights)

    • Avoiding all sobriety check points while on route

    • Perhaps a scavenger hunt element on a couple transits

List of craft breweries could include (but keep'm coming):
    • Magic Hat (VT)

    • Long Trail (VT)

    • Hill Farmstead (VT)

    • Berkshire (W.Ma)

    • Gritty McDuffs (ME)

    • Shipyard (ME)

    • Sebago (ME)

    • Red Hook (NH)

    • Shed Brewery (VT)

This will require some recon and dry run taste testing before the main event Smile And in time this could develop into a great annual event. (And then perhaps it will crash and burn in 2023, when we get a 100 people in convoy, NH state police shut it down, and 26 people go to jail for DUI....)

Well.....before we get there, I'll start to write up a draft event plan over the couple weeks.

This sounds like a great idea. Lets start the talk on how to make it happen. One of my friends is a beer rep for Sebago, I bet he could hook us up with a tour.

You could end up doing different geographical tours of breweries too. There's a few in Miane and New Hampshire.

I'm in as well. Allagash is litteraly around the corner from my house, Grittys, Sebago and Shipyard are 5 miles away. Portland should def. be a stop on the trip. Maybe start or end here?

Portland should definitely be included. Maybe as a end point for the Northerners, haha

Too bad my brother wasn't still up here, he would be all in this trip as he does some home brewing of his own.

But most breweries and strip joints you hafta be of age, which is usually 21, (generally because they serve alcohol). And if you can get in and your not of age, what fun is that when you can only look and can't touch/taste Cool

I agree. Just by the nature of this trip it should be assumed that all those participating should be 21+.

For those not quite there yet fear not....I suspect this could turn into an annual event Smile

Sebago is right next door to my shop. You might want to talk to a guy named Harv. He is facility manager, and a really nice guy. If nothing else, get yourself a growler of full throttle if it still avail.

I spend about two hours locating craft beer breweries on a map, and then the summer came and went.... Never got to connect the dots or recon routes. I suck.

Still a great idea, but think it needs a small team to pull a plan together. Could start small and just plan to meet once a month at a brewery.

A couple more to give thought too.

    Baxter Brewing in Lewiston.

    http://www.baxterbrewing.com/ (Tap room, beer only)

    Bray's in Naples.

http://www.braysbrewpub.com/ (pub food, brewed onsite beers)

    Schilling's Beer

I'd suggest this as a stop, in Littleton NH. I believe there are some pretty good class 6's in the region as well, not sure if it could be added into the loop. I'm not much of a beer guy (heart burn), but I love the food at these breweries!
