Recovery Points

I have been looking into mounting recovery points onto my SX4 and this is what I'm thinking of. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011M9YMP6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 But I'm concerned because of the extreme conditions and the strap breaking down.

I dont think I would rely on that. I think the constant wet,dry would degrade it. Find a welder and have them look things over and I bet they could come up with something fairly inexpensive.

Something like what they put on rally cars may be your best bet.

I thought you had a rear receiver. If you do, that's a good recovery point. A 2" receiver will accept a 2" wide strap looped around the hitch pin.

A lot of rear recievers for smaller cars do not have a 2" opening. Ive seen what looked like an inch to prob an inch and a quarter on small cars and mini vans.

I agree, that design looks like it puts way too much stress on the strap where it is looped through. Also, I doubt one bolt is enough to hold that mount securely in place anyways.

Please don't take offense to this, as there is absolutely none intended, but I would not hook my rig to that point for a recovery. Way too big a risk of it failing.

As Steve said, that hitch receiver shackle you have is an adequate recovery point.

Recovery points/equipment are not the place to try and save some coin. This is where things could break and cause far more damage cost wise then you'll ever spend on recovery equipment let alone putting someone in grave danger. Rear recovery point is likely the inch and quarter receiver on that SX4 that Adam is talking about. Although this would be a sufficient recovery point for the rear the best best would be to buy a shackle that fits into the receiver hitch. This helps in a few ways.
1. Easier to get to and safer. If you ended up needing recovery then usually the best option is to pull you out how you went in. By having an adequate rear recovery point, hitching a tow strap or winch to a submerged recovery point that may be in water or mud will be much easier with a shackle mount that I've linked below.
2. Although hitch pins can be an option for recovery they don't allow the safest option if the recovery vehicle needs to pull from an angle as the tow strap can rub on the side of the hitch tube and damage the recovery strap or cable due to the hitch pin being at least a few inches inside the hitch tube.

As far as a front recovery point, if you're still looking into getting a winch installed a recovery point can be welded directly onto the winch plate.

so now i'm looking at these and the weight limit is 4800 lbs and my car weighs under 3000lbs

Interesting, that shackle is only rated for 4,000 pounds..

could I just replace the shackle with a higher rated one?

I do believe so. You'll just have to pay attention to the pin diameter (the threaded part that goes thru the bow part) as lighter WLL ones will be smaller in overall size. Once you get that shackle/receiver combo, you can measure the hole diameter and shop from there. It may be possible to slightly bore the hole out bigger to fit a larger pin, altho certainly not recommended as it'll decrease the integrity of the block.

There are limited choices for smaller parts.

I have another question for you I need to get tires soon and I'm looking at the General Grabbers 215/65r16 all terrain tires do you know ant thing about these tires?

As far as the recovery point hitch that I linked it was merely for a visual . You will have to ensure that you get one that is rated for the correct strength .

As far as the general grabbers I think they're a great tire. They tend to be on the cheaper end of comparable tires which is nice for the wallet and they also get great reviews.

Is there a kit like this that fits your car or has someone installed this universal kit that you know of online or personally?  This looks like it's the best option going for front and rear recovery for your rig.  I'd find one that fits, and you can use all the bolt holes to mount it.  

If you really wanted to have the best setup I'd find someone who can make these out of Steel instead of aluminum with all the proper bolt holes attached and then I'd have someone run a weld around the entire thing and affix it permanently to your rig.
