Which winch line? Empty Which winch line?

Post by MtnClimber Fri Dec 21, 2012 10:10 pm

I'd like to swap over to synthetic winch line and was curious what people were using. I have a XRC8 that is installed on a 4500 lb vehicle (00 Jeep Cherokee). I generally try to stay away from mud but I frequent rocks and would use a sheath. Overall general extraction use.
The current steel cable is 100'+/- and I'd like to atleast keep it the same length.

Any thoughts of manufacturers and diameter of line would be fabulous!

A few reasons why I'd like to swap: Less weight, easier to manuever, no sharp metal burrs, no kinks, etc.

Amsteel blue seems to be the recommended brand from everything I have read

they are the ones that make almost all of the commercial lines that secure commercial sea vessels that use synthetic

Did you ever decide? ASR makes a high quality product at a great price and I have had great success with them. I also know them well and can get you a good price if you want.

If it's there, so be it. But I try to avoid it at all costs. There's oodles of places to explore without traversing thru mud.

I've used a few brands and have witnessed Amsteel blue take an amazing amount of abuse. However, if the budget is there I would install a Masterpull line every time. At the shop I used to work at we installed Masterpull on all of the offroad rigs.
