So, I've needed a decent backpack forever and have resisted buying one because any pack worth the space it takes up is usually around $100. Well, yesterday I happened upon one of these for $35 bucks, so I jumped.
Let me say, I am impressed with it's seemingly never ending capacity for stuff.
I packed it for the VOT and added a couple extras just to see what it will actually hold in it's deep 3 pocket setup.
My loadout is as follows:
1 pair Carhart pants, 1 pair swim trunks, 1 pair khaki shorts, 4 changes of underwear, socks, and undershirts, 4 t-shirts, PJ pants, two heavy long sleeve shirts, a pair of mechanics gloves, and a cotton hat.
I got all that in and realized I still had a ton of room left so I started shoving other stuff in:
Threw in a aluminium 1 quart water bottle, toiletries, both my pistols, and 100 rounds extra for both.
STILL have more room to go:
In goes a gazetteer, a decent knife, a headlamp, some basic first aid stuff(band aids, gauze,Tylenol, etc.) I didn't bother to put any fire starter stuff in since I'm a smoker and always have a means to start a fire anyways.
OK, now it's getting full, but wait! I have little tabs all over this thing, so I figured out I can mount my kydex holster on the shoulder strap and get the .45 out of the bag and up near my chest. I can tuck a day's worth of snacks and 3-4 20.oz bottles of water in there too.
It has a provision for one of those camel back things also if I want to lose the bottled water and aluminum reusable bottle. The only things I wish this bag had were the little side pouches and maybe 1 or 2 smaller pouches on the outside.
This will become a standard item in the Jeep now, I can't believe how much stuff I can put in here. Obviously if I wasn't packing for 4 days of camping I would have more room for other non clothing items, and that will increase it's versatility as a truck bag greatly. I will likely pack it with two days of clothes when it goes in the Jeep and fill in the extra space with other stuff that would be useful if I was in a situation where I needed to abandon my truck and walk out of wherever I am.
